Simon Boccanegra in Vienna

Simon Boccanegra returns to the Wiener Staatsoper after the Autumn prima on the evening of February 17th, for a four performance run. Mr. Placido Domingo is using Simon Boccanegra as his current vehicle for any theatre who cares to utilize his services, and the Weiner Staatsoper is more than pleased to present the artist as their Boccanegra, which pleases everyone concerned. Mr. Roberto di Biasio is Adorno, Miss Maija Kovalevska is Amelia, Mr. Michele Pertusi is Fiesco, and Mr. Marco Caria is Paolo. Maestro Evelino Pido is on the podium. COMMANDOpera has occasionally wondered aloud at the persistence of senior artists who refuse to retire tastefully. Yet if theatres determine to rely on older drawing cards as opposed to younger artists in excellent vocal disposition, one at times wonders where it will all end as such intransigence is unsettling in any business forum.
