Gran Teatro La Fenice Otello

Otello will prima at the Gran Teatro La Fenice on the evening of November 16th for a run of seven performances. COMMANDOpera notes the three primary roles are double cast with interesting inclusions. Mr. Gregory Kunde is first cast to sing Otello, with Mr. Walter Fraccaro second. COMMANDOpera vividly recalls a blond Mr. Kunde from some decades ago essaying lighter Donizetti repertoire most splendidly. Today, Mr. Kunde sings very rarely given the vocal estate of his instrument. Miss Leah Crocetta is first cast as Desdemona, while Miss Carmela Remigio is second. Both of these artists are extremely capable of handling the simple vocal demands of this particular Verdi heroine. Messrs Lucio Gallo and Dimitri Platanias are Jago, Mr. Francesco Marsiglia is Cassio. Mr. Myung-Whun Chung is on the podium for the entire run. COMMANDOpera would not fly over to take in this production, however this Otello is nicely situated for the local audience.
