The Fiorenza Cossotto Amneris

Several years ago, this writer posted on YouTube a video of Italian mezzo soprano Fiorenza Cossotto as Amneris at the Metropolitan. In offering a video of Miss Zajick as Amneris in the article below, COMMANDOpera determined to add this one in a separate post for global readers so they may draw their own conclusions as to which artist best embodied the Egyptian princess. To date, the Cossotto video has garnered over 36,000 views. and pages of comments. It enlivened such interest in Miss Cossotto, she came out of retirement to undertake concerts in Japan which featured the most strenuous airs of her most difficult roles. The artist also made a point of reaching out to COMMANDOpera through a close friend to send her great appreciation in our having rekindled an interest in her work for another generation. She was most pleased and humbled by the new found enthusiasm which subsequently followed her around the globe.
