The Rake’s Progress in Paris

The Rake’s Progress
will prima on the evening of October 10th at the Opera National de Paris Palais Garnier venue for a run of eight performances. This is a revival of the Olivier Py production last seen at the theatre in 2008, which at the time was extremely well received. The Rake’s Progress concerns the decline and fall of one Tom Rakewell, who deserts Ana Trulove for the delights of London in the company of Nick Shadow, who turns out to be the Devil. After several misadventures (all initiated by the devious Shadow), Tom ends up in Bedlam, a psychiatric hospital south of London. The moral of the tale is: “For idle hearts and hands and minds the Devil finds a work to do.”Mr. Scott Wilde is Truelove, Miss Ekaterina Siurina ia Ana Trulove, Mr. Charles Castranova is Tom Rakewell, and Mr. Gidon Saks is Nik Shadow. Sir Jeffrey Tate is on the podium.
