Rigoletto will prima at the San Francisco Opera on the evening of September 9th for a run of twelve performances which are double cast. This 2006 SFO revival production will open with Mr. Zeljko Lucic as Rigoletto, Miss Aleksandra Kurzak as Gilda, and Mr. Francesco Demuro as the Duke of Mantua. The second cast is of equally vocal stellar nature: Mr. Marco Vratogna as Rigoletto, Miss Albina Shagimuratova as Gilda, and Mr. David Lomeli as the Duke. COMMANDOpera could not be more impressed with both Rigoletto’s or either Gilda’s for that matter. The only disappointing casting is perhaps Mr. Andrea Silvestrelli as Sparafucile, which COMMANDOpera finds sufficiently important and pivotal in the last act to warrant an artist who is in prime. Maestro Nicola Luisotti is on the podium for the entire run.
