The Pearlfishers in Sydney

The Pearlfishers will debut this evening with Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House venue. This is the much lauded and revived John Conklin production which is set in ancient Ceylon in a rather mystical setting. The casting for this revival is derived completely from Opera Australia’s young artists program, including Mr. Andrew Jones as Zurga, Mr. Henry Choo as Nadir, Miss Nicole Car as Leila, and Mr. Jud Arthur as Nourabad. What can be expected from these performances will be exceptionally strong vocal instruments with considerable bloom. COMMANDOpera admires Opera Australia for undertaking this production without the benefit of star power. The work itself can be considered something of a rarity, however there exists a number of well known airs which provides all the artists vehicles to showcase their work.
