Turandot Opens Seattle Season

Turandot will open the Seattle 2012 2013 season on August 4th at 7:30 P.M. for a run of 8 performances. American soprano Lori Phillips will essay the title role singing opposite Mr. Antonello Palombi as Calaf. COMMANDOpera heard Miss Phillips as Turandot a few years back, and advises audiences to be prepared for full out volume singing which will be heard through to the nose bleed seats. Miss Phillips sees a great deal of ice in Turandot, yet the softer side to her princess is almost pastoral in gentleness: a serious tour de force portrayal not often witnessed on stages today. Miss Lina Tetriani is Liu and Mr. Peter Rose is Timur. The two matinee performances will use alternate casting for the two leads and Liu. COMMANDOpera has sent mail to Miss Phillips requesting a formal interview to discuss her portrayal of Turandot, and how the role has evolved in her mind. Seattle Opera often employs ranking names for their productions which has spoilt audiences somewhat, however this casting is superb beyond measure.
