Don Giovanni in Dallas

Don Giovanni will open the 2010 2011 season at The Dallas Opera on the evening of October 22 nd. at 7:30 P.M. Dallas time. The seven performances will be under the baton of Mr. Nicolae Moldoveanu. This is an original production which has been created by the legendary Designer/Director Mr. John Pascoe and was first seen at the Washington National Opera in 2008. Mr. Pascoe would be the British equivalent of Mr. Franco Zeffirelli, if one were to attempt the man’s range where theatre is concerned. The Don Giovanni in Dallas is the Polish/Brazilian Mr. Paulo Szot who recently received a Tony for his Broadway performance in South Pacific. Although this honour would indeed be a pinnacle for many artists, one must say it certainly creates a difficulty in finding more operatically inclined music from the artist on the web. Here is Mr. Szot performing Romanesque by Ravel to give readers an idea of Mr. Szot’s abilities.

This Don Giovanni features other artists known to COMMANDOpera: Miss Georgia Jarman is Donna Elvira, Mr. Ben Wager is Masetto, Miss Claire Rutter is Donna Anna, Mr. Jonathan Boyd is Don Ottavio. Below are photographs of the sets from the perspective of the Lighting Designer of the production, Mr. Jeff Davis. COMMANDOpera thanks Mr. Davis for authorising their use.
