The Dallas Opera will be revealing a world premiere song cycle at their Annual Fundraiser Gala on Friday April 8. 2011. Bear in mind this IS Texas ..and this IS DALLAS…. and they do things BIG in TEXAS. Whilst other companies have fundraisers with some stars who are on hand, or perhaps offer an auction, the Dallas Opera commissions an entire song cycle to be revealed by one of the top artists on the globe. And WHO was commissioned to bring to life said cycle? Composer Jack Heggie and Librettist Gene Scheer. Operaphiles who have just read those two names are immediately aware of their towering success of their newly premiered work Moby-Dick. COMMANDOpera HIGHLY advises attendance to this particular Gala, for there will be nothing comparable this season whatsoever anywhere on the globe.
“After the tremendous experience of Moby-Dick this year, what a thrill it is to be coming back so soon to the Dallas Opera to make music at the glorious Winspear Opera House,” says Mr. Heggie. “Gene Scheer and I are deeply honored and touched to have been invited to return—and especially to do so by writing a set of songs for the great American baritone Nathan Gunn. He is a favorite artist of mine, an extraordinary singer, and somebody I’ve been aching to write for.”
Tickets to the gala dinner and entertainment begin at $1,000 per person. Table sponsorships begin at $20,000 and include invitations to an exclusive patron party, the Dallas Opera Gala, and premium table placement.
